Ep 7. Derby Gaol & the Guildhall Tunnels

In season 2, episode 7 of Great British Ghosts, titled Derby Gaol & the Guildhall Tunnels, paranormal investigator Michaela Strachan visits two eerie locations in Derby, England, where haunted tales have been passed down through generations.

First, Strachan heads to Derby Gaol, a historical prison dating back to the 1700s, where she interviews a former prison governor who claims to have had a number of strange experiences during his time working there. He recounts hearing phantom footsteps and strange noises coming from within the empty cells. He also shares the story of a former prisoner named William Bailey, who was partially amputated due to a leg infection and later died in custody. Visitors to Derby Gaol have reported feeling a chilling presence and hearing unexplained moans and groans, leading many to believe that Bailey's ghost still haunts the prison.

Next, Strachan explores the Guildhall Tunnels, a network of underground passageways that date back to the 14th century. These tunnels were originally used by medieval traders to transport goods between the marketplace and the River Derwent, but later became a refuge for the homeless and destitute. Strachan interviews local historian Richard Felix, who shares tales of ghostly sightings in the tunnels, including the apparition of a woman wearing a white gown and a young boy who is said to have drowned in the nearby river and whose spirit still lingers in the tunnels.

Throughout the episode, Strachan uses a range of paranormal investigation tools and techniques, including EVP (electronic voice phenomena) recordings, to try and capture evidence of the supernatural. She also talks to locals and experts in order to piece together the history and stories behind these haunted locations.

Great British Ghosts season 2 episode 7 offers a fascinating insight into the ghostly folklore and history of Derby, and is sure to send a chill down the spine of even the bravest viewer.
