In Episode 3 of Grand Tours of Scotland's Lochs, host Paul Murton journeys through the stunning landscapes of the West Highlands, exploring the history and culture of the area's many lochs.

The episode begins with a visit to the picturesque Loch Maree, known for its crystal-clear waters and surrounding woodland. Paul meets with local boatman and historian, Ken Kennedy, who takes him on a tour of the loch and shares stories of its past, including the legend of how it got its name. Paul also visits the ruins of an ancient chapel on one of the loch's islands, before heading to the nearby village of Gairloch to learn about the local fishing industry.

Next, Paul travels to Loch Ewe, which played a crucial role during World War II as a base for the Arctic convoys. He visits the Russian Arctic Convoy Museum and meets with local historian, Brian Milne, who explains the importance of the convoys in supplying Britain's Soviet allies during the war. Paul also takes a boat trip around the loch, admiring its rugged coastline and learning about the wildlife that calls it home.

The episode then moves on to the stunningly beautiful Loch Torridon, where Paul meets with local naturalist, Peter Hamilton, to learn about the area's geology and wildlife. They hike up a nearby hill to get a better view of the loch and the surrounding mountains, before heading out on the water to explore its hidden coves and inlets. Along the way, they spot a variety of seabirds and even a group of seals basking on the rocks.

Finally, Paul visits the remote Loch a' Bhraoin, which can only be reached by hiking a steep and rugged trail. He meets with local gamekeeper, Donnie Graham, who shows him around the loch and shares stories of his experiences living and working in the area. They also visit the nearby waterfall, known as the Eas a' Chual Aluinn, which is the highest waterfall in Scotland at over 650 feet.

Throughout the episode, Paul's love for Scotland's wild landscapes and rich history shines through, as he delves deeper into the stories behind each of the lochs he visits. Grand Tours of Scotland's Lochs offers a fascinating insight into the people and places that make the country's lochs such a special part of its cultural heritage.
