As the title suggests, the Gotham season 4 episode 18 is all about entertainment. Aptly titled "A Dark Knight: That's Entertainment," the episode takes us on a ride through the many facets of Gotham's entertainment industry, which includes everything from illegal fight clubs to cabaret shows.
The episode starts with the gruesome discovery of the body of a popular comedian at the club where he performed. The police find out that the comedian was killed by a gas that induces extreme laughter, with the victim dying when his lungs were filled with the gas. But the bigger question is who did it, and why?
The answer comes in the form of Jerome Valeska, the clown prince of madness who has been terrorizing Gotham for a while now. He has planned a grand spectacle, a sort of sick theatre where the whole of Gotham will be his captive audience. He takes over a television station, kills the staff and broadcasts his twisted show for everyone to see.
The show is filled with violence and mayhem, with Jerome forcing his victims into deadly games that he calls Madness, Mayhem, and Murder. He makes Bruce Wayne, whose fortune he wants, his plaything, and the billionaire is forced to play along to survive. In a twisted way, we see a glimpse of what Bruce will become in the future as he lays aside his moral code to stay alive.
Meanwhile, Jim Gordon, who is still reeling from the death of his fiancé, finds out who is behind the deadly gas that killed the comedian. He is shocked to find out that it is Oswald Cobblepot, aka the Penguin, his once-close friend, who has fallen on the wrong side of the law. They meet, and Penguin admits to being the one behind the heinous act. He tells Gordon that he did it to get back at those who had wronged him and that he has found a new ally in Sofia Falcone.
The episode also delves deep into Barbara Kean's past and sheds light on why she has the vendetta against the city's elite and the establishment. She meets Ra's al Ghul, who tells her about the power that the Demon's Head holds, and their conversation hints at a possible alliance between them.
As the episode ends, the episode's most shocking twist comes in the form of someone returning from the dead. It is a game-changing moment that sets the stage for the final episodes of the season.
Overall, "A Dark Knight: That's Entertainment" is a thrilling episode that showcases the best the show has to offer. From the insane theatrics of Jerome to the morally ambiguous actions of Bruce and Gordon, the episode keeps you engrossed throughout. It's an experience you won't forget easily.
