In episode 3 of Gosick season 1, entitled "E 3", we continue to follow the adventures of Kazuya Kujo and Victorique de Blois as they solve mysteries in the fictional European country of Sauville.
The episode begins with Kazuya and Victorique attending a play at the local theater. After the performance, Kazuya notices that one of the actors, Grevil de Blois (who also happens to be Victorique's half-brother), is in the audience. Suddenly, a woman in the balcony screams and falls to her death. It quickly becomes clear that foul play is involved, and Kazuya and Victorique set out to investigate.
The duo goes to the scene of the crime, where they discover that the woman fell from a balcony that was closed off to the public. They also find a piece of torn clothing that suggests a struggle took place. The woman is later identified as Selma Frahm, the wife of the theater owner.
Kazuya and Victorique interview the other actors in the play, and it becomes apparent that Selma was having an affair with one of them, a man named Paul Dedalus. They track him down and question him, but he insists that he had nothing to do with Selma's death.
As they continue to investigate, Kazuya and Victorique begin to suspect that Grevil may be involved in the murder. They discover that he had a heated argument with Selma before the play, and that he was in possession of a key that would have granted him access to the closed-off balcony.
Their investigation leads them to a shocking conclusion: the murderer is none other than Victorique's own mother, Cordelia Gallo. Cordelia, who was thought to be dead, had faked her own death years earlier and has been in hiding ever since. She killed Selma because she believed Selma was threatening her daughter's safety.
The episode ends with Cordelia escaping and promising to meet with Victorique again. Kazuya and Victorique are left to ponder the implications of this revelation and what it may mean for their future investigations.
Overall, "E 3" is a gripping episode that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The plot twists and turns are unexpected but never feel contrived, and the characters continue to be well-developed and interesting. Fans of the mystery genre are sure to be satisfied with this episode.
