Ep 1. Tasmania

In season 2 episode 1 of Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted, the celebrity chef heads to Tasmania, the island state off the southern coast of Australia. Known for its rugged wilderness and pristine coastline, Tasmania is also a food lover's paradise with fresh seafood, game meat, and seasonal produce.

Ramsay begins his journey by meeting River Lea farmer Elaine Reeves, who introduces him to her prized Wessex Saddleback pigs. Ramsay even gets in on the action by helping to feed and herd the pigs, before learning how to cook a traditional Tasmanian pork dish called black pudding.

Next, Ramsay heads out to sea with local fisherman Michael Kyneur to catch the elusive southern rock lobster. Despite challenging conditions and a fiercely competitive market, Ramsay manages to catch a few lobsters and learn the art of 'cribbing' - a technique used to protect the lobster's claws from damage during transport.

Back on land, Ramsay visits the Tasmanian highlands for a true wilderness experience. He joins local hunter Mick Sward on a deer hunt, trekking through dense forests in search of the elusive Sambar deer. After successfully bagging a deer, they head to a nearby river to try their hand at fly fishing for freshwater trout - another Tasmanian delicacy.

The final stop on Ramsay's Tasmanian adventure is to meet Nick Haddow, cheesemaker extraordinaire and founder of Bruny Island Cheese Co. Ramsay is in for a treat as Haddow introduces him to his award-winning cheese, including the "ocean washed" cheese that is left in sea water to mature. Ramsay even gets a chance to make his own cheese, and is surprised at just how challenging the process can be.

Throughout the episode, Ramsay is struck by Tasmania's natural beauty and its passionate, hardworking people who are committed to preserving the environment and producing the best food possible. Ramsay's genuine curiosity and respect for the local culture shines through as he embraces each new experience with enthusiasm and a desire to learn.
