Cassie (Catherine Bell) welcomes her old friend John (Dan Payne) to the town of Middleton to work on his novel. The arrival of John, a successful author, not only lifts Cassie’s spirits but also fills her with a feeling of nostalgia. In the meantime, Mayor Martha (Catherine Disher) is up for re-election, and her opponent is Tom (Paul Miller). Tom's campaign is gaining momentum and luring voters away from Martha. Martha's negative campaign tactics are not helping her case in the slightest. Tom's most vocal and powerful supporter is his daughter, who often uses social media to promote her father's candidacy. With news of opposing politicians and a feeling of falling behind in the polls, Martha turns to Stephanie (Kylee Evans) for campaign help.
Grace (Bailee Madison) is surprised by a visit from her schoolmate, and soon to be step sister, Nick (Rhys Matthew Bond). Nick tells Grace about how his mother is hiding a secret from his father, which he believes has been weighing on his mom's mind and causing her stress. Grace initially suggests that Nick should try and have his mother tell the truth, however, Nick responds that the consequences could be too severe. Grace decides to help Nick try and get to the bottom of his mother's secret and hopefully, in the process, find a solution to the problem.
Meanwhile, John's stay in town has started to bother Cassie. He seems to be filling his time writing at the Grey House but also snooping around town. Cassie tries to avoid jumping to conclusions, but she can't help questioning what John is up to. To get to the bottom of the issue, Cassie enlists Sam's (James Denton) help in finding out the truth about why John is in Middleton. However, things get complicated when Cassie starts to develop romantic feelings for John.
The storyline for this episode moves similar to the pace of previous episodes in the series. There is something for everyone, regardless of your age. There is the drama of the Mayor's race, the strife between soon to be step-siblings and a possible new romance for Cassie. The episode keeps the viewer engaged throughout. Good Witch has already established itself as a comfortable, enjoyable, and family-friendly show. It gives you a relaxed view of the world, makes you feel happy and enchanted, and leaves you smiling. Episode 6, "The Truth About Lies," certainly did just that.
