JJ's younger brother, Michael, comes home from school and informs everyone that he needed to buy a 'patron' in order to get an A on his art project. Everyone is left confused until Thelma realizes that Michael meant a 'patron of the arts', a person who supports artists financially. The family is more than happy to help Michael with his project, but JJ gets upset and tries to convince Michael to sell out and make money as an artist.
Meanwhile, Florida's friend, Willona, comes over to borrow a few things and sees Michael's artwork. She is blown away by his talent and offers to introduce him to a famous artist whom she knows and respects. Willona takes Michael to the artist's studio where he is surrounded by beauty and creativity. The experience leaves Michael itching to create and develop his own artistic style.
Thanks to Willona's introduction, Michael gets a job as an apprentice for the artist. He is thrilled to be working in such a creative space and learning from a master. However, JJ feels that his brother is being taken advantage of and tries to convince him to ask for a higher wage.
With all the attention being paid to Michael's artwork, JJ becomes jealous and feels like he's being left out. He acts out and creates tension in the family, causing his mother to give him a stern lecture about the importance of supporting each other.
Meanwhile, Michael's dedication and hard work pay off when the artist invites him to show his work in a gallery show. The family bands together to create a beautiful display and cheer Michael on as he debuts his artwork.
In the end, the family learns the importance of supporting each other and nurturing each other's talents. Michael gains confidence in his abilities and JJ learns a valuable lesson about jealousy and sibling rivalry. The episode ends with the family gathered around Michael, thrilled and proud of his success.
