Bob and Amy Duncan are excited to have a date night, but they can't help but worry about their teenage daughter Teddy who has her first real date with a boy named Spencer. Meanwhile, their son Gabe is trying to impress a girl he likes named Jo by acting like a tough guy, and their younger daughter Charlie is having a playdate with a boy named Mason.
As Bob and Amy prepare to leave for their date, they give Teddy a few tips on how to act on her date with Spencer. But Teddy is nervous and keeps checking her phone for messages from her friends. When Spencer arrives, she is surprised to see that he is not what she expected. Despite their awkward conversation, they decide to go out on their date.
Gabe, on the other hand, is trying to act like a tough guy to impress Jo. He thinks that if he shows her his karate moves, she will like him more. But when he accidentally breaks a lamp, Jo sees right through his act and tells him to be himself.
Meanwhile, Charlie and Mason are having a blast on their playdate. They dress up, play games, and even have a tea party. Mason is a very sweet and polite boy, but when Charlie suggests they kiss, he tells her that he is not ready yet.
As the night goes on, Bob and Amy begin to worry about their kids. They wonder if Teddy is having a good time on her date and if Gabe is behaving himself. They even consider cutting their date short to check on them.
Eventually, Teddy and Spencer's date comes to an end and they return home. Teddy tells her family that she had a great time and that Spencer turned out to be a nice guy. Gabe admits that he was trying too hard to impress Jo and that he likes her for who she is. And Charlie tells her parents that even though Mason didn't want to kiss her, she still had a fun time on her playdate.
In the end, Bob and Amy realize that their kids are growing up and that they need to trust them to make their own decisions. They decide to let them have more freedom and have faith that they will make the right choices.
