Ep 1. Good Girls Revolt

Good Girls Revolt is a show set in 1969, that follows a group of female researchers working at News of the Week, a weekly news magazine, who decide to take a stand against the systemic discrimination and misogyny they experience in their workplace.

The first episode, entitled "Good Girls Revolt," begins with a brief introduction of the main characters, including Patti, Cindy, and Jane, who work as researchers for News of the Week, but are not given any recognition or bylines for their work. Instead, they are given menial tasks such as photocopying and filing.

Her first assignment is to cover a civil rights protest, but when she approaches her editor, he dismisses her ideas and assigns a male reporter instead.

At a dinner party, Patti, inspired by Nora's determination, shares her story of being a researcher who has never been given a byline. Her boyfriend, Doug, suggests that she should start a revolution and the idea of creating a class-action lawsuit is born.

Meanwhile, at the office, the women are all experiencing their own individual issues. Jane is assigned to interview a plastic surgeon who only agrees to an interview if she sleeps with him. Cindy is asked to wear more makeup and shorter skirts in order to be less "intimidating." Patti, after pushing boundaries, is threatened with termination.

The episode culminates in a dramatic scene where Patti confronts her boss and accuses him of discrimination. He tells her that she should be grateful for her job and that he would never let women become writers for the magazine. Patti storms out, but not before throwing a garbage can through the glass door and setting off the office alarm.

The episode ends with the women standing outside the office, listening to the alarm, and realizing that they are not going to back down in the face of this discrimination.

The first episode of Good Girls Revolt is a powerful introduction to the series, showcasing the deep-seated sexism and discrimination that women faced in the late 1960s.
