Starring Brooke Shields, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Scott Glenn, the film follows the story of a former FBI agent, Betsy Tannenbaum (Shields), who's drawn back into a decades-old case when the serial killer she caught and put in jail claims that he's innocent.
The plot of the movie initially revolves around a string of unsolved murders that took place in the 1970s in California. After years of searching, Tannenbaum finally tracks down the suspect, the handsome and charismatic Mark Tartaglia (Phillips). Despite his insistence on his innocence, she manages to convict him of the murders and send him to prison for life.
However, something strange happens 18 years later: Tartaglia sends Tannenbaum a message through his lawyers, claiming that he's innocent and that he has evidence to prove it. Intrigued and suspicious, Tannenbaum decides to take a look and begins to uncover new leads that suggests that Tartaglia might not be the culprit.
Despite her former colleagues' skepticism, Tannenbaum follows the clues and runs into people who had been involved with the investigation decades before. She realizes that years ago, they missed a crucial piece of evidence that might have exonerated Tartaglia. As she digs deeper, Tannenbaum starts to receive ominous threats and realizes that Tartaglia's supposed innocence might be part of a much larger conspiracy that involves her former colleagues.
As she races against time and her own doubts, Tannenbaum discovers that the truth is not only buried deep in the past but that it also involves dark secrets and dangerous people. As she gets closer to the truth, she puts herself in danger and has to use all of her wit and instincts as a former FBI agent to stay alive and catch the real killer.
The film offers an engrossing mix of suspense, courtroom drama, and investigative mystery, bolstered by a cast of experienced actors. Brooke Shields, in particular, delivers a standout performance as Tannenbaum, who has to come to terms with her own past mistakes while fighting for justice.
Overall, Gone But Not Forgotten is a compelling thriller that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. It offers a thought-provoking exploration of how the past can come back to haunt us, even if we thought that we had left it behind. The film is an excellent choice for fans of crime dramas and psychological thrillers, and it's sure to leave viewers gripped until the very end.
