Goliath season 2 episode 1, titled La Mano, picks up where the first season left off. Billy McBride, played by Billy Bob Thornton, is a recovering alcoholic and ex-lawyer who takes on a case after being asked for help by his friend's son. This time around, he's representing a Mexican father who was wrongly accused of murdering a judge.
The episode begins with Billy managing his own law firm out of a dingy motel room. His clients are mostly lowlifes and the pay is meager, but Billy bucks the conventional lawyer persona and only takes cases that he believes in. When his friend's son, Julio, contacts him with news of a jailed Mexican immigrant who claims innocence, Billy's interest is piqued.
From there, we get a glimpse into the politics of California and the relationship between the U.S. government and Mexico. As Billy delves further into the case, he uncovers corruption at every turn. State officials are trying to deport the accused while the victim's family is pushing to get the accused death penalty.
Billy's journey takes him from seedy motels to high-powered law firms, where he tangles with political players and legal sharks. He races against the clock to find a way to clear the accused's name before he's sent back to Mexico to face certain death.
As always, Billy is not alone in his quest for justice. Patty, a former employee, and lover, of the law firm, is back in the picture. She's now a rising star at another firm, but her loyalty to Billy never wavers. On the other end of the spectrum, there's the mysterious investigator, Marisol. She's enigmatic, dangerous, and might just hold the key to Billy's next move.
La Mano is an explosive start to the second season of Goliath. It picks up the pace right where the first season left off and doesn't hold back on drama, intrigue, and suspense. The episode sets the perfect stage for the ongoing battle that Billy will face as he fights for justice in the face of impossible odds. The stakes are higher in season two, and the excitement is palpable.
Overall, Goliath season 2 episode 1 is a treat for fans of the show. It proves that Billy Bob Thornton's character is still as compelling as ever and the writing is just as sharp. La Mano is just the beginning, and it's clear that the second season is poised to be just as gripping and entertaining as the first.
