Ep 2. New Family (2)
- September 19, 1998
After the events of the first episode, Dr. Niko Tatopoulos and his team continue their mission to track down and study the various mutations that have been caused by Godzilla's presence. In "New Family (2)," the team responds to a distress call from a small island in the Pacific.
Upon arrival, they discover that the island is inhabited by a tribe of people who have been living in isolation for centuries. The tribe is led by an elder named Warden, who is suspicious of the outsiders but agrees to let them stay in exchange for help with a problem they have been facing.
The tribe has been dealing with a group of giant creatures that have been attacking their village and stealing their food. These creatures are revealed to be a species of giant insect called Megapedes. The team quickly realizes that the Megapedes have been mutated by exposure to nuclear waste, making them much larger and more dangerous than their normal counterparts.
The team sets out to find and study the Megapedes, hoping to find a way to stop them from attacking the village. Meanwhile, one member of the team, Randy Hernandez, befriends a young member of the tribe named Leo.
As they study the Megapedes, the team discovers that they are able to communicate with each other through pheromones. They also learn that the Megapedes are fiercely protective of their own offspring, which are being held captive by Warden's tribe as a source of food.
The team comes up with a plan to lure the Megapedes away from the village and into a trap, where they can study them more closely and potentially find a way to neutralize their aggression. However, the plan goes awry when Leo is captured by the Megapedes and taken to their nest.
Randy and the team confront the Megapedes at their nest and are able to rescue Leo. In the process, they discover that the Megapedes are not inherently aggressive, but have only been attacking the village to protect their young.
The team works with Warden and the tribe to release the Megapedes' young back into the wild, which causes the adult Megapedes to retreat from the village. The team is able to gather valuable data on the Megapedes and their behavior, which they hope to use in future missions.
Overall, "New Family (2)" is an action-packed episode filled with interesting new creatures and plenty of suspenseful moments. The episode also explores themes of communication, cooperation, and the ethics of scientific study.
