The episode of Godzilla: The Series season 1 titled "An Early Frost" opens up with the team readily following Dr. Craven into the Arctic biome to study a newly discovered species of prehistoric Arctic dung beetle. However, their study is disrupted as they find themselves in a perilous situation, as the ice they are standing on begins to break. Things take a turn for the worse when Craven and Mendel Craven fall into freezing water, putting their lives in peril. As the team tries to save them while dealing with the harsh Arctic environment, they suddenly find themselves face-to-face with a rampaging giant monster.

The monster is none other than Ice Borer, a previously unknown creature that has been sleeping beneath the ice. This beast has the ability to tunnel through ice and is wreaking havoc on the surface. However, the team is hesitant to fight back due to the harsh conditions they are working in. Meanwhile, Nick Tatopoulos and Elsie Chapman work together to come up with a plan to stop Ice Borer, but things quickly turn south when they find themselves trapped in a cavern after being chased by the monster.

As the team tries to find a way out and fend off Ice Borer, they discover a startling realization. The Ice Borer is not a new species but instead, a mutation caused by genetic engineering from Dr. Craven's lab. He had created the Ice Borer to develop it as a weapon, but it didn't turn out to be as controlled as he had hoped. This causes the team to question their willingness to work with him and to consider the ethical implications of their work.

The episode continues at a fast pace as the team fights to save themselves from Ice Borer's clutches and drifts apart over their differing moral perspectives on their work. However, the urgency of the situation forces them to put their differences aside, and they work together to defeat Ice Borer and escape the Arctic biome. As the episode ends, the team reflects on the reality of the dangers that come with genetic engineering and the moral responsibility that they must take on as scientists.

"An Early Frost" is a striking episode that touches on ethical considerations in science and the consequences of genetic engineering. The episode also brings back Godzilla, who was absent in the previous episode. The unique setting of the Arctic biome and the Ice Borer monster make for a thrilling watch that keeps the audience on edge throughout the episode. The intriguing character dynamics and the central conflict of ethics versus progress make for a thought-provoking watch that keeps the series fresh. Overall, "An Early Frost" is an excellent episode that serves as an excellent addition to the series and a stand-alone watch for fans of monster films.
