The Seaweed Monster episode of Godzilla: The Original Animated Series season 1 revolves around a brand new creature, a mutated giant seaweed. Godzilla and company stumble upon this monstrous seaweed while on their way to a vacation on the sea, only to find themselves being attacked by it.
The episode begins with the team, consisting of Brock, Pete, and Majors, taking a break from their routine battles and enjoying a good time at the sea. The team sees a fishing boat struggling in the distance and tries to help it out. They soon realize that the boat was caught in a mutated seaweed, which has wrapped itself around the fishing boat, making it immovable.
The seaweed soon begins to attack the team's boat too. The team hurriedly tries to get away, but the seaweed manages to latch itself onto their boat as well.
As the team investigates this monster seaweed, they come across a scientist named Dr. Newton who seems to know more than he should. Dr. Newton explains that the seaweed is not only a new mutated species, but it is also indestructible and its strands are stronger than steel.
As the team tries to come up with a plan to defeat the seaweed, the creature ends up on shore and begins attacking a nearby city in Japan. Meanwhile, Godzilla makes his entrance, and the battle with the Seaweed Monster begins.
Godzilla may be a formidable opponent, but the Seaweed Monster proves to be nothing less. The monster's strong strands and devastating attacks pose a threat, even to Godzilla.
Caught in the midst of the battle, Dr. Newton reveals his true intentions; he was the one who mutated the seaweed and triggered its sudden growth. The team realizes that Dr. Newton was wrong to create the monster and decide they must stop it at all costs. They come up with a plan to weaken the seaweed's hold on the town using a chemical they developed.
With the help of the people of the town and the team, Godzilla finally manages to kill the Seaweed Monster. In the end, the team reflects on how the creature's creation was a product of man's greed and how such experiments should be left alone in the future.
The Seaweed Monster episode of Godzilla: The Original Animated Series season 1, while introducing a new creature to the franchise, also delves into ethical questions on scientific experimentation and the dangers of tampering with nature.
