As the title suggests, the fourth episode of the second season of Godfather of Harlem, titled "The Geechee," follows Bumpy Johnson as he heads to Georgia to strike a deal with a group of Geechee Gullah people who have been illegally fishing in New York City waters. The episode also explores the ongoing tensions between the Italian mafia and the African-American community in Harlem.
Bumpy, played by Forest Whitaker, travels to Georgia with his associate, Elise, to meet with the Geechee fishermen and secure a deal. However, they quickly discover that the situation is more complicated than they anticipated as tensions run high between the Geechee and the white landowners who own the fishing rights. Bumpy tries to negotiate a peaceful resolution, but when violence breaks out between the two groups, he must step in to protect his people.
Meanwhile, Vincent “Chin” Gigante, played by Vincent D'Onofrio, continues to plot against Bumpy and takes advantage of the unrest in Harlem by stoking tensions between the Italian mafia and the African-American community. He orchestrates a violent attack on a Harlem nightclub owned by one of Bumpy's associates, which leads to retaliatory measures from the Johnson crew.
As the conflict between the Johnson crew and the Italian mafia intensifies, Bumpy is forced to make difficult decisions in order to protect his family and his community. All the while, he must navigate the complex web of relationships and power dynamics in Harlem, including his uneasy alliance with Malcolm X.
"The Geechee" marks a compelling addition to Godfather of Harlem's second season with its exploration of race relations, political intrigue, and the struggle for power during a tumultuous time in American history. Viewers can expect a tense and emotional hour of television that delves into the complexities of identity and loyalty in the face of systemic oppression and violence.
