Ep 5. Freaky Tuesday

In GLOW season 3 episode 5, titled "Freaky Tuesday," the ladies of GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) encounter a bit of a switch-up when they find themselves embodying one another's personas for a day. As usual, the episode begins with a wrestling match, but this time things take a unique turn.

The first scene presents us with Ruth as Zoya the Destroya, taking on Melrose as Junkchain. The match finishes with Ruth attempting to execute a tricky move, which leaves her with a sprained ankle. The girls are in a fix since Ruth, as Zoya, is central to their advertising materials, and the injury could undermine their show.

With Ruth out of commission, the girls must scramble to develop an alternative show. Sam advises them to shake things up and introduce some excitement to their routines. As they worry about how to switch things up, Carmen suggests they spend the day on a Freaky Friday-style role-swapping experiment. Hijinks ensue as each girl tries to embody another's personality for the day.

The Freaky Tuesday experiment provides some comedic relief to an otherwise dramatic season. It's fun to see how well each girl adapts to their new character and how well they can put their own spin on it. One of the most touching aspects of the episode is the way that the girls bond with one another in their effort to understand each other's worlds.

Jenny, typically seen as an immature and ditzy character, takes on the stereotypically "smart" persona that Melrose plays, allowing her to show off her intellectual side. Likewise, Melrose takes on the role of Rhonda, who is portrayed as the "hot one" of the group. She further tries to embody Rhonda's persona and the way others perceive her. Meanwhile, Carmen attempts to alleviate Ivory of her depression by adding some bounce to her step. Betty Gilpin plays a convincing Debbie as Carmen, exhibiting some of the show's funnier moments.

Meanwhile, Sam has his challenges as he tries to navigate his newfound responsibility as a father, which only adds to his already mounting stress. While it's a fun and lighthearted episode, there is still underlying seriousness to be dealt with. Between the injuries, insecurities, and personal struggles that each of the women faces, the Freaky Tuesday exercise reveals that even with all their differences, the women of GLOW are there to support each other.

The episode ends with a successful show. By combining elements of each other's personalities and referring to the Freaky Tuesday experiment, they are finally able to create a unique and entertaining show. They have transcended their personal struggles and are working like a well-oiled machine because they've learned to accept and understand each other better. Freaky Tuesday was a hilarious dream sequence that allowed the characters to reveal a lot about themselves and each other. There's no guessing how long this amusement will last, but there's no denying that it was a lot of fun while it lasted.
