Makeup has been a significant part of human history for centuries. From classic Egyptian cat-eye to Marilyn Monroe’s red pout, every decade saw a new trend in the world of beauty. In this episode of Glow Up, the contestants go on a journey to explore makeup through the decades.

Right from the start, the contestants were excited to take on new looks from the past. Judges Val Garland and Dominic Skinner welcomed them into the makeup room, which was filled with vintage makeup products and styling tools, all dating back from the 50s to 90s. They highlighted that recreating iconic makeup looks is not just about applying makeup but also understanding the color pigments, skin tones, and the era-specific techniques that were used.

The first look that they had to recreate was the 50s classic look, which was all about winged eyeliner and a bold red lip. Contestant Leah excelled in this task as she managed to create a perfect cat-eye along with a statement lip. However, others faced some challenges in creating the perfect shape of an eyeliner. Val Garland provided some helpful tips and tricks to create a perfect winged eyeliner that they could use in the future.

The next look was from the 60s, where pastel colors, big eyelashes, and twiggy-inspired looks dominated the fashion industry. Contestant James excelled in creating this look and impressed the judges with his use of colors and eyelash extensions. The judges also appreciated the fact that he incorporated his signature in the looks, which made it more personalized.

The 70s disco era came next, where glitter and shimmer made a big statement. The contestants had to recreate the iconic blue eyeshadow, thick lashes, and glossy lips. Judges thought that contestant Leigh’s look was the most impressive, as she beautifully blended the blue hues and created an iridescent shine with the glitter.

For the 80s challenge, the judges asked contestants to recreate Madonna’s iconic look, which features brown eyeshadow, heavy blush, and a bright red lip. Contestant Nikki did an excellent job with this task as she perfectly balanced colors and styles. The judges praised her to create a seamless look while keeping up with Madonna’s style.

The last look was from the 90s, where the grunge and minimalist looks defined the era. The contestants had to recreate the iconic looks of Kate Moss and Drew Barrymore. It was the most challenging task of the day, as most of the contestants found it hard to nail down the grunge look. Contestant Ellis took the lead by perfectly matching the looks with hair and accessories. The judges appreciated her eye for detail as she managed to bring together the perfect 90s vibe.

In the end, the judges had to choose the top-performing contestants who excelled in the challenge and those who struggled. James and Nikki were the top performers, and Leah and Ellis were at the bottom. Although Ellis struggled in the last task, the judges appreciated her overall performance and selected her to stay in the competition. Leah, on the other hand, was eliminated.

Makeup Through the Decades was a perfect episode to showcase how makeup evolved over time and highlighted the importance of classic looks. Contestants took inspiration from the past and created some of the most iconic looks that defined the era. It proved to be an excellent opportunity for them to learn about the art of makeup while paying homage to the past.
