Ep 2. Movie Prosthetics

In the second episode of season one of the popular British reality TV series "Glow Up", titled "Movie Prosthetics", the ten aspiring makeup artists are required to push their limits and creative skills by working with prosthetics.

The episode begins with host and judge Stacey Dooley introducing the contestants to guest judge and special effects makeup artist Bill Turpin, who has worked on major Hollywood movies like "The Dark Knight", "Skyfall" and "Gladiator". The challenge for the episode is to create a movie prosthetic that is both realistic and innovative.

The contestants are given two hours to complete a realistic injury prosthetic, which they must then apply to themselves and present to the judges. Some contestants excel, while others struggle with the prosthetics, the application process or the time limit.

Next, the contestants are tasked with creating a completely new character with a prosthetic for a movie using a much longer four hour time limit. They must consider the character design, sculpting, and painting process. They are paired in teams and work with a professional prosthetic artist on this task. To add to the pressure, they have just one hour for extensive research and planning.

The team dynamic proves to be a challenge for some of the contestants, while others excel in working collaboratively. Some teammates take over, leaving others feeling unheard and frustrated. Despite this, the contestants all push themselves to create some truly unique and innovative prosthetics for their fictional characters.

Once again, the judges showcase the strengths and flaws of each team, praising their creativity while also pointing out areas for improvement. Contestants who created characters that were deemed too reminiscent of existing movie characters, struggled with time management or sculpting techniques, and others who displayed exceptional creativity and strong technical skills were commended and rewarded.

By the end of the episode, the judges select the best and the worst teams, with one contestant facing elimination and one receiving full marks for their prosthetic work. The intense episode leaves viewers with a real sense of excitement and anticipation for what's to come in the next round.
