In the Glee season 2 episode 6, titled "Never Been Kissed," the focus is on two characters in particular: Kurt and Blaine. Kurt is a member of the Glee club and is openly gay, but has never been in a romantic relationship. Blaine is a student at a nearby all-boys school, Dalton Academy, where he is known for being openly gay as well as the lead singer of their acclaimed a cappella group, the Warblers.
The episode begins with Kurt and his classmates in a health class that teaches them about bullying and harassment. Kurt speaks out about his own experiences, prompting the teacher to suggest they come up with a safe word to use when they're feeling uncomfortable or threatened. Kurt later tells Blaine about the safe word, and Blaine suggests that they go out to get some coffee and talk more about their shared experiences.
As they talk, Blaine shares his own experiences with bullying and how he copes with it. He also introduces Kurt to the Warblers, who perform a song for him. Kurt is immediately enamored by the group, and Blaine suggests that he audition for Dalton Academy in order to escape the bullying at his own school.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Glee club is preparing for sectionals while dealing with their own personal issues. Finn is struggling with the fact that he was caught cheating on a test and is consequently benched from the football team. He also finds out that his girlfriend, Rachel, has been seeing her ex-boyfriend, Jesse, behind his back. Santana is feeling insecure about her own intelligence and turns to Brittany for comfort.
As the episode unfolds, Kurt auditions for the Warblers and makes a lasting impression with his rendition of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream." He is immediately accepted into the group, and Blaine offers to show him around the school. During their tour, they come across a group of students bullying a fellow classmate, and Kurt uses the safe word to get out of the situation. Blaine tells Kurt that he doesn't have to just take the bullying, and that he should fight back and stand up for himself.
Inspired by Blaine's words, Kurt confronts the bully and ends up punching him in the face. This action prompts the principal to call Kurt's father, Burt, in for a meeting. Burt is initially upset with Kurt for resorting to violence, but later realizes that he needs to support his son and helps him come up with a plan to deal with the bullying.
In the end, the Glee club performs a mash-up of "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "Free Your Mind" at sectionals, which impresses the judges and helps them win the competition. Kurt is thrilled to have found a safe and accepting community at Dalton Academy, but ultimately decides to return to McKinley High and rejoin the Glee club.
Overall, the episode tackles important issues such as bullying and harassment in high school, as well as the struggles of being an LGBTQ+ teenager. It also features some fantastic musical performances, including notable solos from both Kurt and Blaine. "Never Been Kissed" is a standout episode from Glee's second season, and a must-watch for fans of the show.
