Ep 20. Theatricality

In Glee season 1 episode 20, titled "Theatricality," the glee club prepares for their upcoming performance at regionals with a Lady Gaga-inspired theme. The episode kicks off with Sue Sylvester, the coach of rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline, calling Will Schuester to inform him that their club is performing a Lady Gaga number at regionals as well. Will is worried, but the glee club has their heart set on performing Gaga, and the preparation begins.

Finn and Kurt, who are roommates, are struggling to get along due to Finn's messy habits. After Finn ruins one of Kurt's outfits, Kurt retaliates by gluing Finn's deodorant shut and spray painting the word "Loser" on his locker. In an effort to bring them together, Mr. Schuester assigns them to sing a Lady Gaga duet together.

In a subplot, Emma Pillsbury, the school counselor and Will's love interest, invites him to a counseling session to discuss his feelings for her. This discussion leads to tension between the two, and Will's ex-wife Terri remains a specter in the background of their interactions.

Meanwhile, Mercedes and Santana plot to convince Rachel to tone down her diva attitude by staging an intervention. They invite her to a "multicultural potluck" (which Santana uses as a chance to show off her own culture) in an effort to teach her about being a team player. While it initially seems to work, it quickly becomes apparent that Rachel is not going to change her ways.

Back to the main plot, the glee club is gearing up for their Lady Gaga performance. Kurt has recruited his father, a mechanic, to help create elaborate Gaga-inspired costumes for the group, which are a highlight of the episode. They perform "Bad Romance" and "Poker Face" with energy and flair, bringing down the house.

The episode ends with Sue Sylvester approaching Kurt in the hallway and offering him a spot on Vocal Adrenaline. Kurt is tempted, but ultimately decides to stay with New Directions. The final shot is of Will and Emma, neither of whom seem entirely sure where they stand with each other.

Overall, "Theatricality" is a classic episode of Glee that combines heartwarming moments with flashy musical numbers. Gaga fans will certainly be pleased, but even viewers who aren't familiar with her music will find plenty to enjoy.
