Ep 1. All I Ever Wanted

In the first episode of the final season of HBO's hit comedy-drama Girls, entitled "All I Ever Wanted," we catch up with Hannah (Lena Dunham), Marnie (Allison Williams), Jessa (Jemima Kirke), and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) a few months after the events of the previous season.

Hannah is still trying to land a teaching job while also navigating a long-distance relationship with her boyfriend, Fran (Jake Lacy). Marnie, who has recently split from her husband, is trying to establish herself as a solo artist and is getting ready to perform at a classic rock festival. Jessa is still reeling from the unexpected death of her therapist, Dr. Rice, and is grappling with the idea of starting over with a new one. Shoshanna, meanwhile, has moved away and cut ties with her former friends, but is finding that her new life isn't quite what she expected.

As Hannah prepares for a lunch date with Adam (Adam Driver), she receives some unexpected news that throws her for a loop. Marnie, who is staying with Hannah, is excited to announce that she has secured an early morning set at the festival, but Hannah doesn't seem as thrilled as she should be. Meanwhile, Jessa is having a hard time finding a new therapist who can live up to Dr. Rice's legacy, and Shoshanna struggles to fit in with her new group of friends.

Throughout the episode, we see each character dealing with their own struggles and insecurities. Hannah is forced to confront some of her deepest fears and make some tough decisions about her future. Marnie grapples with the realities of being a solo artist and the pressures of performing live. Jessa contemplates the idea of starting over and the difficulty of letting go of the past. And Shoshanna begins to realize that maybe the life she thought she wanted wasn't really what she needed.

Despite the challenges they face, the girls manage to find moments of joy and connection throughout the episode. Hannah and Adam have an honest conversation about their relationship that leaves both of them feeling more hopeful about the future. Marnie's performance at the festival is a success, and she shares a sweet moment with Ray (Alex Karpovsky) after the show. Jessa starts to feel more comfortable with her new therapist and opens up about some of her deepest fears. And Shoshanna finds a moment of genuine connection with an unexpected friend.

"All I Ever Wanted" sets up what promises to be an emotional and satisfying final season for Girls. As the series draws to a close, we're left wondering what the future holds for these characters we've come to know and love. Will Hannah finally find the success she's been striving for? Will Marnie settle into a new phase of her life as a solo artist? Will Jessa be able to move on from Dr. Rice's death? And will Shoshanna find the happiness and fulfillment she's been searching for?
