Joan is out on a date with Davis, a man she has been seeing for several weeks. Things are going well until Davis receives a call from work and has to leave abruptly, leaving Joan sitting alone at the restaurant. She is disappointed but tries to make the best of it by ordering dessert. As she waits for her dessert, she strikes up a conversation with a man named Frank who is also dining alone. They share some laughs and Joan begins to feel a connection with him.
Meanwhile, Maya, Toni, and Lynn are at their apartment trying to decide what to do for the evening. Maya is excited to stay in and have a movie night, but Toni and Lynn are not impressed with the idea. They instead opt to go out and try to meet some men. Maya stays behind, content with her own company.
At the restaurant, Joan and Frank continue to talk and get to know each other. Frank reveals that he is actually on a blind date and is disappointed with how it's going. He and his date have nothing in common and he's not feeling a connection. Joan sympathizes with him and suggests they each pay for their own meals and continue their conversation elsewhere. Frank agrees and they leave the restaurant together.
As they walk and talk, Joan begins to feel guilty about going out with Frank while still technically on a date with Davis. She decides she needs to let Davis know what happened and tries to call him but only reaches his voicemail. Frank takes her to a jazz club where they continue to bond over their shared interests. They even dance together and Joan feels a spark between them.
Back at the apartment, Maya is enjoying her movie night until she is interrupted by Toni and Lynn, who burst in with two men they met at a bar. Maya is not interested in joining them and tries to politely decline their invitation to hang out. The men, however, are persistent and begin to invade Maya's personal space. She finally snaps and tells them to leave, asserting her boundaries.
Joan and Frank end their night together and she returns home, feeling conflicted about what happened. She finally receives a call from Davis and tells him everything that happened. Davis is upset and feels like Joan cheated on him, but Joan defends herself and says that he was the one who left her alone. They argue and ultimately decide to end things.
The episode ends with Joan questioning her choices and wondering if she made the right decision by pursuing something with Frank. Maya, Toni, and Lynn apologize for their behavior and Maya asserts her independence. The girlfriends come together to support each other, but also realize that sometimes they need to make tough decisions for themselves.
