Riley becomes envious of the attention her best friend Maya is receiving in school when Maya wins a contest on social media and becomes popular overnight. She becomes even more jealous when Maya is invited to go to a party with the most popular girl in school, while Riley is left behind. In an attempt to fit in, Riley begins to change her behavior and dress more like the popular crowd, causing her to drift further away from her own identity.
Meanwhile, Cory struggles to teach his students about the true meaning of popularity, and realizes that it's not about being liked by everyone, but about being true to oneself and being a good friend to others.
As Riley continues to chase popularity, she begins to realize that it's not all it's cracked up to be, and that Maya's popularity has come at a price. Maya, who has always prided herself on being a free spirit and doing things her own way, begins to feel the pressure of living up to her new image, and starts to question whether the attention is worth sacrificing who she truly is.
In the end, Riley and Maya both learn valuable lessons about the importance of staying true to themselves, and understand that being popular isn't the key to happiness or success. They also come to realize that true friendship is about accepting one another for who they are, flaws and all, and supporting each other no matter what.
