In Gintama season 1 episode 22, titled "Marriage is a mistake you make for the rest of your life," the members of Yorozuya are hired to investigate a missing person's case. The missing person is the daughter of a wealthy businessman who has recently gotten married and the groom happens to be a former client of Yorozuya, Kyousuke Munakata. Munakata had once hired the trio to help him woo his now-wife and he had succeeded in doing so.
The trio soon discovers that Munakata is involved in the missing person's case as he too has disappeared, along with his wife. They follow the trail and end up in a village called Higashida, where they discover that the village chief, named Youhei, has been keeping the couple's whereabouts a secret from the businessman and his daughter.
Upon interrogation, it is revealed that Munakata and his wife had gotten married in Higashida but had decided to run away after the village chief revealed that their marriage was not valid. It turns out that Youhei had lied to the couple and the magistrate to get them to go through with the wedding ceremony so that he could receive a commission for officiating the marriage.
Meanwhile, the businessman and his daughter arrive in Higashida and confront Youhei. It is at this point that the truth about the couple's marriage is revealed. The daughter is understandably upset, but Munakata explains that their love for each other is true and that the wedding ceremony was only a formality. He proposes to his wife once again and they exchange vows in front of everyone present.
The episode ends with Yorozuya being thanked for their help in the case and the newlywed couple leaving Higashida to start their life together.
Overall, "Marriage is a mistake you make for the rest of your life" is an enjoyable episode that explores the theme of love and marriage. The episode tackles the idea that marriage is something that is often done out of societal pressure rather than genuine love. The reactions of the characters to the news about the couple's marriage reflect the various attitudes towards marriage that exist in society.
