In the season 7 premiere episode of Gilmore Girls, titled "The Long Morrow," we pick up with the aftermath of Rory's (Alexis Bledel) decision to turn down Logan's (Matt Czuchry) proposal. Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Luke (Scott Patterson) are still searching for a place to live together, with various setbacks along the way.
Meanwhile, Rory has landed an amazing job covering Barack Obama's presidential campaign for an online news source. She is excited and nervous about this new opportunity, but it means she will be away from her family and friends for an extended period of time. Her goodbye with Lorelai is tearful and emotional, and we see just how strong their bond is despite the distance between them.
Luke is also struggling with the idea of being apart from Lorelai, and he reveals to Kirk (Sean Gunn) that he is considering proposing to her. Kirk, of course, is thrilled and eager to help in any way he can. There are some hilarious moments as they try to come up with the perfect proposal plan, including enlisting the help of Miss Patty (Liz Torres) and Babette (Sally Struthers).
As Rory begins her new job, she meets a cute fellow journalist named Lucy (Krysten Ritter), and they bond over their shared love of journalism and all things Obama. However, Rory is still clearly grappling with her feelings for Logan and what her future holds.
Back in Stars Hollow, Lorelai is struggling to adjust to life without Rory, and she finds herself turning to Emily (Kelly Bishop) for support. Emily, surprisingly, is there for her and offers some wise advice about moving forward and embracing new opportunities.
In the final moments of the episode, Luke finally pops the question to Lorelai in a sweet and emotional proposal. The two embrace as Lorelai accepts his proposal, and we are left feeling hopeful for their future together.
Overall, "The Long Morrow" sets up some major storylines for the final season of the show. We see Rory starting a new chapter in her life and forging new friendships, while Lorelai and Luke navigate the challenges of long-distance and take a big step forward in their relationship. It's an emotional and heartwarming episode that sets the stage for what's to come.
