Lorelai is still upset after her argument with Luke, and spends the night at Sookie's house. The next morning, she shows up at Luke's diner to apologize, only to find that he isn't there. Meanwhile, Rory has a lot on her plate. She is struggling with her relationship with Logan, who is pressuring her to drop out of Yale and run away with him to London. She is also trying to balance her school work with her responsibilities as editor of the Yale Daily News.

The episode begins with Lorelai waking up at Sookie's house, feeling down about her fight with Luke. Sookie tries to cheer her up by making her breakfast and telling her about the cake she's planning to make for Dean and Lindsay's wedding. Lorelai is distracted by thoughts of Luke, and decides to go to his diner to apologize. She finds out that he isn't there, but leaves a message for him to call her.

Meanwhile, Rory is dealing with her own problems. She meets with Logan, who seems to be in a good mood until he starts pressuring her to drop out of Yale and run away with him to London. Rory is taken aback by his suggestion, and tries to explain that she doesn't want to give up her education. Logan argues that they could travel the world together, and that they don't need school to be happy. Rory isn't convinced, and tells him that she needs some time to think.

Later, Rory meets with Doyle to discuss some changes she wants to make at the Yale Daily News. She tells him that she wants to add a new section to the paper, called "Good Talk," which would feature interviews with interesting people on campus. Doyle is skeptical, but Rory is passionate about the idea. She assures him that it will be a great addition to the paper, and that she knows just the person to interview first: her mother, Lorelai.

Back at the Gilmore house, Lorelai is feeling dejected after not hearing back from Luke. When Rory comes home and tells her about the "Good Talk" section, she is excited but nervous about being the first subject. Rory reassures her that she will be great, and the two of them decide to start the interview right away.

As Rory asks her questions, Lorelai opens up about her relationship with Luke and her fears about their future. She admits that she doesn't want to lose him, but that she also doesn't know how to fix things between them. Rory listens sympathetically, and then asks her mother a question that catches her off guard: "If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to your younger self?"

Lorelai is thoughtful for a moment before answering. She tells Rory that she would tell her younger self to communicate more openly with the people she loves, and to not be afraid of telling them how she feels. Rory nods, and the two of them hug.

Later that night, Luke finally calls Lorelai back. He tells her that he needs some time to think, but that he still loves her. Lorelai is relieved and hopeful, and tells Rory that she thinks things will work out between her and Luke.

The episode ends with Rory writing her first "Good Talk" article about her mother. She reflects on their conversation and the advice that Lorelai gave her younger self, and realizes that she wants to take that same advice in her own life. She looks out the window and sees Logan waiting for her across the street. She pauses for a moment before turning off the lights and going to bed, unsure of what her future holds.
