Ep 13. Dear Emily and Richard

Lorelai and Rory are going through a tough time financially. Lorelai is worried that she won't be able to afford to send Rory to Chilton, and Rory is concerned about what will happen if Lorelai loses the inn. Richard and Emily, who have had a strained relationship with Lorelai, offer to help with the finances, but their help comes with strings attached. In an effort to repair their relationship with Lorelai, they insist that Rory spend the weekend with them in Martha's Vineyard. Lorelai is reluctant to let Rory go, but eventually agrees. While Rory is away, Lorelai must deal with the fact that her parents are still trying to control her life. She decides to take matters into her own hands and confronts them about their behavior. Meanwhile, Rory is having a difficult time adjusting to life with her grandparents. She misses her mother and feels like she's being treated like a child. As the weekend progresses, tensions rise between Lorelai and her parents, and Rory must come to terms with the fact that her grandparents may never fully accept her mother. Despite the obstacles, the weekend ends with a glimmer of hope for the future of the Gilmore family.
