In episode 5 of Gilmore Girls season 1, titled "Cinnamon's Wake," the residents of Stars Hollow mourn the loss of a beloved pet cat named Cinnamon. The town comes together to remember Cinnamon, and Lorelai and Rory attend her wake at the home of Cinnamon's owner, the town's eccentric art dealer, Mrs. Kim.
While at the wake, Lorelai and Rory are introduced to Mrs. Kim's son, Lane, who has a secret love for rock music and dreams of becoming a drummer. The girls encourage Lane to pursue his passion, even if it means going against his mother's strict rules. Meanwhile, Lorelai's ex-boyfriend, Max, pays a surprise visit to her at the inn, creating tension between Lorelai and her current love interest, Luke.
At the wake, Lorelai and Sookie meet an attractive man named Rune, who turns out to be a guitar player for an all-instrumental band. Sookie becomes smitten with Rune, much to Lorelai's amusement. The two end up going on a date later in the episode.
Back in Stars Hollow, Rory and her new friend, Paris, clash over their recently assigned school project, and Rory has to learn to be assertive when it comes to standing up for herself.
Overall, "Cinnamon's Wake" is a heartwarming and humorous episode that highlights the tight-knit community of Stars Hollow and the relationships between its quirky residents. It also continues to explore the romantic tension between Lorelai, Max, and Luke, and introduces new characters and storylines that will play out throughout the rest of the season.
