Ghosted is a paranormal comedy series that premiered on FOX in 2017. The show stars Adam Scott and Craig Robinson as Max Jennifer and Leroy Wright, respectively, two polar opposites who are brought together to investigate unexplained phenomena in Los Angeles. The show also features Ally Walker as Captain Ava Lafrey, their boss and the head of the Bureau Underground, a secret government agency tasked with investigating the paranormal.
The show begins with Max, a brilliant astrophysicist, and Leroy, a skeptical former LAPD detective, both experiencing traumatic events that lead them to believe that there is more to the world than meets the eye. Captain Lafrey recruits them to join the Bureau Underground and investigate a series of strange occurrences that cannot be explained by science or logic.
Max and Leroy are a study in contrasts: Max is highly intelligent, but also socially awkward and prone to anxiety attacks, while Leroy is streetwise and charismatic, but quick to dismiss anything that cannot be explained by science or logic. Their differing personalities lead to comedic clashes and provide a constant source of humor throughout the show.
Despite their differences, Max and Leroy quickly become friends and begin to work together to solve the Bureau's cases. Along the way, they encounter a variety of supernatural beings, including ghosts, demons, and alien creatures, each of which presents its own unique challenges.
One of the strengths of Ghosted is its use of humor. The show is filled with witty one-liners, pop culture references, and physical comedy, and the chemistry between Scott and Robinson is excellent. The writers also do a good job of balancing the comedic elements with the show's more dramatic moments, creating an engaging and entertaining viewing experience.
Another strength of the show is its world-building. The Bureau Underground is a fascinating setting, and the show takes full advantage of it to create an array of imaginative and intriguing storylines. The show's use of technology is also noteworthy, as the Bureau agents rely on a variety of gadgets and gizmos to help them investigate the paranormal.
Ghosted is not without its flaws, however. Some of the show's episodes feel formulaic, with Max and Leroy encountering a supernatural threat that they ultimately manage to defeat through a combination of luck and ingenuity. Additionally, some of the show's characters, including Captain Lafrey and the other members of the Bureau, are not as fully developed as they could be.
Overall, however, Ghosted is a fun and entertaining show that provides an enjoyable break from more serious programming. The show's blend of humor, adventure, and supernatural elements is sure to appeal to fans of other paranormal comedies like Supernatural and The X-Files, as well as viewers who simply enjoy a good laugh. With strong performances from its leads and an engaging premise, Ghosted is definitely worth checking out.
