Ep 4. Do Over

In season five, episode four of Ghost Whisperer titled "Do Over," Melinda helps a deceased high school athlete in his attempt to connect with the living to finally fulfill his life’s goal.

The episode starts with Melinda visiting the local high school's track field for work. She helps a football player connect with his deceased father to help him resolve his personal issues. After finishing her work, a former classmate, Matt, recognizes Melinda. He reminds Melinda of their high school years and the time when his younger brother, Eli, passed away in a high school football game. Melinda initially does not recognize Matt, but as she remembers their past together, Matt shares that he has been hoping to see her again for years.

Melinda starts to recall the situation regarding Eli’s death. She remembers how she had comforted Matt, who believed that Eli had died because he was not skilled enough to play in the game. Melinda realizes that Eli’s spirit still roams around, and she decides to investigate the matter.

During Melinda’s research, she also learns about the traumas Matt had gone through over the years since his brother’s passing. She discovers that while Matt had been driving with his fiance, an oncoming car crashed into them, and the accident claimed her life. The experience traumatized Matt, and he had never been the same since.

Melinda reaches out to Eli's spirit, and he reveals to her their troubled relationship before his untimely death. Eli explains how he detested Matt for prioritizing his football career over spending time with his brother. Melinda starts investigating high school archives to learn more about Eli and Matt's past. There she encounters many of their friends and acquaintances who provide input to help determine the sequence of events established after Eli’s passing.

Melinda finally devises a plan to reunite Eli with his brother Matt to give him a second chance. With the help of Eli's friends and family, she sets up a football game at the same high school where Eli had played years ago.

During the game, Eli appears, but only Matt can see him. As the game progresses, Matt starts to remember his love for football from all those years past. In a power surge of emotion, Matt scores a touchdown, giving his team the lead. As the crowd cheers, Eli and Matt share a moment when their bond reconnects after years of separation.

Melinda is astonished as she witnesses the connection between Matt and Eli. In the end, Matt and Eli's mother embraces them, establishing a moment of profound family unity as Matt remembers his dearly departed younger brother.

In "Do Over," the audience gets a glimpse of the power of teamwork as well as the impact that trauma can hold over someone's life.
