Melinda meets a gymnast named Ali who had a near-death experience during a competition. Ali finds herself being visited by the ghost of Wendy, a former champion gymnast who died in a similar competition. Wendy refuses to let Ali compete again, fearing that she will suffer the same fate. Despite Wendy's warnings, Ali decides to take a leap of faith and return to gymnastics. But as she does, she starts experiencing strange occurrences that ultimately lead her to Melinda.
As Melinda tries to figure out why Wendy is haunting Ali, she learns about Wendy's past and uncovers a tragic mystery that has remained hidden for years. Meanwhile, Melinda and Jim adjust to life with their new baby and deal with the challenge of balancing their careers and personal lives. In the end, Ali has to make a difficult decision that will impact her future and give closure to Wendy's ghost.
The episode showcases the classic formula of the show, with Melinda trying to help a wandering spirit while also dealing with her personal life. Ali's courage and determination to follow her dreams serves as a great contrast to Wendy's fear and regrets that haunt her even in death. The episode has its share of eerie moments, but also has touching moments that showcase the show's emotional range.
Overall, "Leap of Faith" is a solid episode of Ghost Whisperer that delivers the goods in terms of compelling storylines and engaging characters. It highlights the show's unique take on ghost stories, as well as its focus on the importance of following one's heart and believing in oneself. Fans of the show will find plenty to enjoy here, while newcomers can easily jump right in and appreciate the episode's standalone storyline.
