Melinda Gordon is a young woman dealing with a unique ability: she can communicate with the dead. Melinda has just opened an antique store, and her first customers are a young couple, Brian and Lisa Johnson. While browsing the store, Lisa is followed by a ghost who begins to haunt her.
Melinda realizes that the spirit is that of a young woman who committed suicide in the apartment Lisa and Brian just moved into. The ghost, named Sarah, is desperately trying to communicate with Lisa, who is the only person who can see her. However, Lisa is too afraid to acknowledge her presence, and she and her husband decide to move out of the apartment.
Melinda tries to convince Lisa to confront the ghost and to give her the closure she needs to move on. Lisa is still hesitant, but with some encouragement from Melinda and her husband, she agrees to confront Sarah. The confrontation proves to be successful, and the ghost is finally able to move on.
In the subplot, Melinda’s friend, Andrea, is having relationship issues. Her boyfriend, Damon, seems to be pulling away from her and becomes distant. Melinda suspects that there might be a ghost involved and tries to investigate. She discovers that Damon’s father died recently and is still trying to communicate with his son. Melinda helps Damon and his father reconcile, and Damon and Andrea’s relationship is saved.
Throughout the episode, Melinda also deals with her own personal demons – trying to come to terms with the death of her father and the fact that her abilities make it difficult for her to have a normal life.
Overall, “Ghost, Interrupted” is a touching and emotional episode. It deals with loss, love, and the power of communication – both with the living and the dead. The episode is a testament to the show’s ability to handle heavy topics with grace and sensitivity. It also sets up several ongoing storylines, including Melinda’s struggle with her ability and the possibility of other ghosts haunting the town.
