The fourth season of Ghost Asylum takes the team to Peoria State Hospital, the sight of the state's only insane asylum. This abandoned building still contains the memories of all those who lived and died there, and the team believes that there may be more to the stories than just what meets the eye.
The episode begins with the team discussing the history of the asylum. It was established in the late 1800s to house the mentally ill of the state. When it was originally built, it was designed to house only 200 patients, but by the 1930s it was home to over 2,000. The conditions were inhumane, as patients were subjected to ice baths, electroshock therapy, and other "treatments" that are now considered barbaric.
The team starts their investigation in one of the most haunted areas of the asylum, known as the tunnels. These were used to transport patients and staff from building to building, but they were also sometimes used to isolate patients. It's said that screams can still be heard echoing through the tunnels at night. The team sets up several cameras and begins to explore.
As they explore, they notice that things seem to be moving on their own. Doors open and close, and objects move across the floor. They hear strange noises and feel cold spots. The team is convinced that they're not alone. They use a variety of tools, including EMF detectors and EVP recorders, to try to capture evidence of the paranormal.
The investigation takes a terrifying turn when the team enters one of the patient wards. There are still beds in the room, and it's said that patients were often bound to these beds as a form of restraint. The team senses a dark energy in this room, and they quickly realize that they are not welcome. They hear footsteps and see shadows moving around the room. The team becomes alarmed when they hear what sounds like a growl coming from a corner of the room. They quickly leave the area.
Later, the team decides to spend the night inside the asylum. They set up several cameras and try to get some rest. However, they are constantly interrupted by strange noises and movements. They hear footsteps and voices, and at one point they feel something tapping them on the shoulder. The team agrees that they cannot stay in the asylum for much longer.
As the investigation comes to a close, the team reviews their evidence. They capture several EVPs that seem to be coming from the spirits of former patients. They also capture several strange anomalies on camera, including orbs and strange shadows. The team concludes that Peoria State Hospital is definitely haunted, and they believe that the spirits of the patients who suffered there are still lingering.
