Max and 99 head out to Hollywood to investigate the KAOS studio. They are tasked with discovering the hidden headquarters of Victor Royal, a KAOS agent in charge of stealing the nation's security secrets. They assume the identities of actors, with Max playing the part of a cowboy and 99 as a leading lady.
As they settle into their roles at the studio, they find that there are numerous KAOS agents working within the film industry. Their first clue is a director who is an obvious KAOS agent. He attempts to sabotage Max and 99's roles in the film by providing them with faulty props and costumes.
Max and 99 eventually stumble upon a hidden room at the studio that contains a microfilm projector. While investigating the room, they are captured by KAOS agents and taken to Victor Royal's hideout.
There, they are surprised to find that the hideout is disguised as a Hollywood set, complete with fake facades and movie props. Max and 99 use their wits to escape the hideout and return to the studio, where they are able to stop KAOS from stealing top-secret government documents.
In the end, Max and 99 receive awards for their performances on the film set and are given the opportunity to continue their acting careers in Hollywood.
