One Nation Invisible is the thirteenth episode of the fourth season of the classic TV show Get Smart, which originally aired in 1968. The episode revolves around the CONTROL agents Maxwell Smart and Agent 99, who are tasked with investigating the mysterious disappearance of a beach, which seems to have vanished overnight.
As Smart and 99 begin their investigation on the missing beach, they discover that it is not the only thing that has disappeared. The entire town of Balinderry has vanished, with no signs of a struggle or any indication of what could have caused the disappearance. The townspeople have seemingly vanished into thin air. The duo soon realizes that the disappearance of the town is part of a larger conspiracy that threatens the security of the country.
The trail leads them to a covert Communist organization, KAOS, who are behind a plot to use an invisibility potion to render America invisible, placing it at the mercy of foreign powers. The potion was intended to be tested on Balinderry, but the entire town was rendered invisible instead. Now, the KAOS agents are planning to use the same potion to make the whole country disappear.
Max and 99 join forces with the head of the local volunteer fire department, played by veteran actor, Kenneth Mars. Together they devise a plan to stop KAOS and save the United States from being rendered invisible. During their attempts to thwart the KAOS plan, the trio must deal with a myriad of obstacles including menacing guards, a chatty parrot, and a mad scientist.
The show is filled with the trademark humor, slapstick situations, and gadgets that have become synonymous with Get Smart. Fans of Mel Brooks' humor will find plenty to love in this episode. The chemistry between Don Adams' Smart and Barbara Feldon's 99 is as delightful as ever, with their banter and witty remarks adding to the comedic tension of the plot.
One Nation Invisible is an excellent example of the type of storytelling that Get Smart offered regularly in its four seasons run. With its tongue-in-cheek humor, witty writing, and charming characters, the show has rightly earned its place as a beloved classic in the world of television. The episode is a perfect entry point for newcomers to the series, while longtime fans will find this a classic episode with all the hallmarks that make Get Smart so memorable.
