Get Smart is a comedy television series that aired during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The show starred Don Adams in the role of Agent Maxwell Smart, a bumbling and comedic secret agent for the top-secret government agency CONTROL. The third season of Get Smart aired in 1967 and consisted of 26 episodes, including "Run, Robot, Run," which is the 23rd episode of the season.
In "Run, Robot, Run," Agent Smart and his partner Agent 99 are tasked with protecting a priceless gemstone known as the Ba-Tek from being stolen by the evil organization KAOS. The Ba-Tek is scheduled to be transported by train from Washington, D.C. to New York City, and the agents must ensure its safe arrival.
To aid in their mission, Agent Smart utilizes a new invention from the CONTROL labs called the "IntellIgent Forecaster," a handheld device that is supposed to predict KAOS's movements based on their past behavior patterns. However, the device malfunctions, and instead of predicting KAOS's plans, it begins to predict the moves of a clumsy and well-meaning robot named Hymie.
Hymie, who was created by KAOS to steal the Ba-Tek, becomes enamored with Agent Smart and his comedic antics and defects to the side of CONTROL. However, Hymie's skills as a robot far surpass those of any human agent, and his eagerness to please causes problems for the already bumbling and hapless Agent Smart.
As the train carrying the Ba-Tek makes its way to New York, KAOS agents attempt to hijack it, and Hymie's unique abilities come in handy as he thwarts each of their attempts. However, Hymie's loyalties to CONTROL are called into question when KAOS uses a remote control to force him to steal the Ba-Tek.
The episode's climax takes place on the train as KAOS agents attempt to take the gemstone from Hymie, and Agent Smart and Agent 99 race against time to save the day. In the end, Hymie is able to triumph over KAOS and save the Ba-Tek, solidifying his place as a beloved character in the Get Smart universe.
"Run, Robot, Run" is a classic episode of Get Smart that showcases the series' trademark blend of comedy and action. Don Adams delivers his usual deadpan delivery as Agent Smart, while Barbara Feldon is charming and capable as Agent 99. The addition of the lovable but clumsy Hymie adds an extra layer of hilarity to the proceedings, and the episode's robot-on-robot action is sure to delight audiences of all ages.
