Gary Unmarried is a television sitcom that premiered on September 24, 2008, on CBS. The show stars Jay Mohr as Gary Brooks, a recently divorced father of two children who navigates the challenges of co-parenting and dating. The show aired for two seasons from 2008 to 2010.
In season 2 episode 4, titled "Gary Shoots Fish in a Barrel," Gary's ex-wife, Allison (Paula Marshall), asks him to take their kids, Tom (Ryan Malgarini) and Louise (Kathryn Newton), camping for the weekend. Gary isn't thrilled about the idea but agrees to do it anyway. He packs up the car with all the necessary camping gear and sets out on the adventure with his kids.
Upon arriving at the campsite, Gary realizes that the trip is going to be much more challenging than he anticipated. His daughter Louise is obsessed with her cell phone and has trouble adjusting to the outdoors. Tom, on the other hand, is excited about the trip but quickly becomes disappointed when he realizes that there is no Wi-Fi connection.
Gary tries his best to make the trip enjoyable for his kids, but they continue to complain about the lack of technology. To make matters worse, Gary realizes that he forgot to pack the tent poles, leaving them without a place to sleep. With no other options, Gary decides to sleep in the car while his kids sleep under the stars.
As the night goes on, Gary hears strange noises outside the car and becomes convinced that they are in danger. He wakes up his kids and makes them hide in the car while he investigates the noise. After a brief scare, Gary comes to the realization that the noise was caused by a group of raccoons rummaging through their trash.
The next day, Gary takes his kids fishing in an attempt to salvage the trip. He ends up catching a fish almost immediately and is proud of himself for being a natural fisherman. However, his kids are less than impressed and continue to complain about the lack of technology.
In a last-ditch effort to save the trip, Gary takes his kids to a nearby town where they stumble upon a street fair. Tom becomes excited about a medieval reenactment and decides to participate. He ends up winning the competition and comes home with a trophy, finally happy with the trip.
