In the Gargoyles season 2 episode 8 titled "Vows," the Manhattan clan continues to adapt to their new home in the clock tower above police headquarters. Meanwhile, a new character, Detective Elisa Maza's brother Derek, becomes a prominent figure in the plot.

As the battle rages on, Derek arrives and, much to the surprise of the gargoyles, agrees to join the fight against the Archmage. Together, they succeed in defeating the Archmage and freeing Hyppolyta.
In the aftermath of the battle, Goliath and Princess Katharine have a heart-to-heart conversation about their friendship, and the importance of keeping vows and maintaining loyalty. Meanwhile, Derek is left with lingering questions about his new allies and the world he has just been introduced to.
The episode ends with the gargoyles settling in for a well-deserved rest, and Elisa reassuring Derek that he has discovered something truly extraordinary in discovering the existence of the gargoyles.
