Ep 4. Awakening (4)
- October 27, 1994
As the episode begins, we see that Detective Maza has managed to trace the existence of the gargoyles all the way back to the castle Wyvern in Scotland. She accompanies Goliath on a journey back in time as he uses the Phoenix Gate to travel back in time to the night when the humans betrayed and attacked the castle.
As Goliath watches in horror, the castle is attacked and his clan is destroyed. He realizes that the humans attacked them because they feared the gargoyles and saw them as monsters. As Goliath wrestles with his grief and despair, the Magus appears and offers to cast a spell to put the gargoyles into a deep sleep until the castle rises above the clouds again.
Goliath and his remaining clan accept the offer, but it turns out that the spell also turns them to stone. As the centuries pass, the castle falls into ruin and is eventually transported to New York City. There, the spell is broken when the castle is once again lifted into the sky.
As Goliath watches the events unfold, he realizes that although the humans betrayed and attacked his clan, they were also capable of compassion and love. He decides to protect the humans of New York City rather than seek vengeance, and the episode ends with Goliath accepting his new role as the protector of the city.
