Garfield and Friends season 1 episode 1 titled "Garfield And Friends Show #1" is the premier episode of the hit animated series and introduces us to the lovable, lazy, and sarcastic orange cat, Garfield. The show is based on the popular comic strip created by Jim Davis and follows Garfield's adventures with his owner, Jon Arbuckle, and his friends.
The episode starts with a short intro where Garfield introduces himself and tells us a little bit about the show. He then breaks the fourth wall and talks directly to the audience, introducing us to his friends and various other characters like the mice, spiders, and birds that appear in the show.
The first segment of the show is called "Garfield Over the Edge" and starts with Garfield being woken up by Jon, who is trying to get him to exercise. Garfield is not interested and decides to take a nap instead. While he's napping, he dreams that he's flying through the air, chasing after a lasagna-powered skateboard. When he finally wakes up, he finds himself outside on the ledge of Jon's apartment, where he must use all his cat-like abilities to get back to safety.
The second segment is called "The First Annual Garfield Watchers Test" and features a quiz show where Garfield is the host and puts Jon, his neighbor Lyman, and his veterinarian, Dr. Liz Wilson, through their paces. The questions are all about Garfield and his likes and dislikes. As usual, Garfield is not impressed with any of the contestants and makes sarcastic comments throughout the quiz. The winner gets a date with Garfield's main squeeze, Arlene the cat.
The third and final segment is called "Pirate Cat" and sees Garfield imagining that he's a pirate on the high seas, searching for treasure. He recruits Odie, Jon's dog, to be his first mate and they set sail on their adventure. Along the way, they must battle a sea monster, outwit a rival pirate cat, and navigate treacherous waters to find the treasure. When they finally locate the treasure, they discover that it's just a bunch of catnip, but Garfield is still pleased with the haul.
Overall, Garfield and Friends season 1 episode 1 is a great introduction to the characters and style of the show. The humor is aimed largely at children, but there are plenty of jokes that adults will appreciate. Garfield's laziness and sarcasm are endearing, and his friendship with Odie is heartwarming. The animation is bright and colorful, and the music is catchy and fun. The show is a classic for a reason and is still popular with audiences of all ages today.
