Ep 18. Series 4 - Episode 18 | Plants people

In this episode of Gardeners' World, titled "Plants people," presenter Monty Don takes viewers on a journey through the world of plant collectors and enthusiasts. From a garden in Cornwall filled with rare and unusual plants to a London nursery specializing in carnivorous species, Monty meets with people who are passionate about their botanical treasures.

First, we visit Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, where owner Michael Polizna has created a lush and exotic garden featuring plants from around the world. Monty is particularly taken with a tree fern from New Zealand, and Michael explains how he and his team protect it from the cold Cornish winters.

Next, we head to the Hillier Nurseries, where Monty meets with director Jim Hillier to learn about the importance of plant breeding and hybridization. Jim shows off some of the nursery's newest and most innovative creations, including a dark red tulip that changes color as it matures.

At the London nursery Casa Flora, Monty delves into the world of carnivorous plants, meeting with owner Barry Rice to see some of the fascinating species they have in stock, from pitcher plants to Venus flytraps. Barry shares his knowledge about how these plants thrive in their unique environments, and even lets Monty get up close and personal with one particularly hungry Venus flytrap.

Finally, we visit the National Collection of Hellebores at Ashwood Nurseries, where owner John Massey has amassed a stunning array of these winter-blooming perennials. Monty learns about the different types of hellebores and how best to care for them, and admires the many colors and patterns on display.

Throughout the episode, Monty reflects on his own love of plants and his admiration for those who dedicate their lives to discovering and cultivating new species. With beautiful footage and inspiring conversations, "Plants people" is sure to delight both seasoned gardeners and those new to the world of horticulture.
