Futurama is an American animated science-fiction sitcom created by Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons. The show is set in the year 3000, and follows the adventures of Fry, a man who was frozen for 1,000 years and wakes up in the future, where he works for the Planet Express, a delivery company owned by his great-great-great-great-great-nephew Professor Farnsworth.
Season 4 Episode 7, titled A Pharaoh to Remember, begins with the Planet Express crew getting an invitation to a trip to Osiris 4, a planet that is a replica of ancient Egypt. The crew is excited to go, and they dress up in ancient Egyptian outfits. However, when they arrive, they find out that Osiris 4 is not what they thought it would be. The natives that greet them are more interested in the crew's snacks than in showing them around the planet.
The group meets the Pharaoh Hamenthotep, who invites them to a party at his palace. They have a great time, dancing and eating, and the Pharaoh asks them to stay as his guests for a while longer. The crew agrees, and they get to see more of the planet.
Later, Hermes, the accountant of Planet Express, realizes that the Pharaoh has put the company in debt through his lavish parties and demands that they pay a large sum of money. The crew is forced to work as servants for the Pharaoh to pay off the debt.
Fry, who is working as a slave in the fields, discovers that the slaves are treated poorly, and he decides to lead a rebellion to free them. With the help of his friends and the slaves, they overthrow the Pharaoh and release themselves from servitude.
In the end, the crew heads back to Earth, and they are left wondering how they could have gotten so caught up in the riches and glamour of ancient Egypt. They also realize that they have gained a new respect for the people who built those ancient civilizations.
A Pharaoh to Remember is a fantastic episode that offers a humorous take on ancient Egypt. The show highlights the dangers of getting too caught up in one's own wealth and the importance of fighting for what is right. The characters are well developed, and the episode offers some excellent character dynamics. The animation and visuals are stunning, and the show's humor is sharp and clever.
