In the season 3 episode 2 of Futurama, titled War Is The H-Word, Fry and Bender decide to join the Earth army after being convinced by their new war-hero friend, Zapp Brannigan. Despite Leela's warnings, the two friends are eager to fight for their planet and star in their own action movie.
Once they join the army, they quickly realize that war is not all it's cracked up to be. They are sent to a boot camp where they are subjected to grueling training exercises and constantly berated by their aggressive drill sergeant, who is none other than their former co-worker, Hermes Conrad.
At boot camp, Fry and Bender meet a group of misfits, including a pacifist and a robot who is programmed for cooking and cleaning. The group forms a bond and tries to make the best of their dreary circumstances. But as the war against the alien race of the "Spheroids" intensifies, the group is thrust into a dangerous battle.
Fry and Bender quickly discover that the reality of war is far from the Hollywood glamor they had imagined. They are confronted with death and destruction, and ultimately learn the true cost of warfare. Throughout the episode, the show addresses the theme of the glorification of war in media and pop culture and how it affects our perception of conflict.
War Is The H-Word is a satirical commentary on the military-industrial complex and the way in which war is often romanticized in popular culture. The episode showcases the show's signature blend of humor and poignant social commentary and stands as a standout installment in the series.
