The episode "Love and Sorrow" of Fushigi Yuugi season 1 opens with Miaka still suffering from her injury in the previous battle. Tamahome is worried about her and does his best to help her recover. At the same time, the remaining Suzaku warriors, including Chiriko and Mitsukake, continue to search for the last two Divine Warriors.

The first half of the episode primarily focuses on Miaka's recovery and Tamahome's dedication to helping her. He even visits a nearby village to find a special herb to help her heal faster. While he is away, Miaka has a dream in which she sees her father and realizes how much she misses him. This leads her to a moment of reflection regarding her situation and her own desires.
The second half of the episode shifts the focus to Yui and Nakago. They are surrounded by enemies, including the remaining Seiryu warriors who are determined to stop them from finding the Shinzaho. Yui and Nakago manage to defeat their attackers and continue their search. However, they are confronted by Amiboshi and Suboshi, the final two Divine Warriors.

Overall, "Love and Sorrow" is a continuation of the series' themes of love, dedication, and self-discovery. Miaka's recovery and her introspection highlight the importance of taking care of oneself and not losing sight of one's own desires. Meanwhile, Yui's futile attempts to reason with Nakago and her desire to return home showcase the dangers of blindly following someone else's will. The episode is action-packed and leaves the audience eager to know what will happen next.
