In Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood season 1 episode 20, titled "Father Before the Grave," the Elric brothers continue their journey to uncover the secrets of the Philosopher's Stone and hopefully restore their bodies to their original forms. As they travel through the countryside, they come across a small village called their father's hometown.
The brothers decide to make a stop and pay their respects to their deceased father. As they visit his grave, they meet two old men who tell them stories about their father's past and his time in the village. They even show the brothers an old photograph of their father when he was younger, which surprises and touches them deeply.
Meanwhile, somewhere else in the country, a group of soldiers led by the military officer Major Armstrong are on a mission to capture a rogue alchemist named Scar, who has been targeting State Alchemists and killing them. Scar is a skilled fighter and a survivor of the genocide that took place in Ishval. He believes that alchemists are responsible for the destruction of his people and wants to exact revenge on them.
As the soldiers close in on Scar's location, they fall into his trap and engage in a fierce battle with him. Scar proves to be a formidable opponent, using his alchemy to cause massive destruction and injuring several soldiers. However, Major Armstrong's determination and strength inspire his men to keep fighting, and they eventually manage to capture Scar.
Back in the village, the Elric brothers are surprised when they receive a message from their friend Colonel Mustang, asking them to return to Central City immediately. They leave the village and head back to the city, not knowing what urgent matter requires their attention.
As the episode comes to a close, we see glimpses of several characters involved in the ongoing plot, including the Homunculus Lust, who is keeping tabs on the Elric brothers' movements, and the mysterious Father, who seems to be pulling the strings behind the scenes. It's clear that the story is building up to a major confrontation between the different factions, and the Elric brothers are right in the middle of it all.
Overall, "Father Before the Grave" is a poignant episode that sheds light on the Elric brothers' past and their connection to their father. It also features some intense action scenes and hints at the larger conspiracy that's unfolding in the background. Fans of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood will not want to miss this episode.
