In Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood season 1 episode 13, titled "Beasts of Dublith," our protagonists continue their journey to find the Philosopher's Stone. The episode starts with Ed and Al arriving in the city of Dublith, where they reunite with their old teacher, Izumi Curtis. However, they soon learn that she has been keeping a secret from them: she has been training two young orphan boys, who are also her apprentices. These boys, Jerso and Zampano, are not ordinary boys – they have been surgically altered to become chimeras, or hybrid creatures. Izumi has taken them under her wing in the hopes of rehabilitating them.
The boys are not the only chimeras in Dublith. The city is full of them, as it is the base of operations for the Homunculi, the mysterious group trying to create the Philosopher's Stone. Izumi warns Ed and Al to stay away from the Homunculi, as they are dangerous and powerful beings.
Meanwhile, the Homunculi are growing impatient with their lack of progress in creating the Philosopher's Stone. They are particularly displeased with their lead scientist, Tim Marcoh, who has been holding out on them. So, they send one of their most fearsome enforcers, a monstrous chimera named Greed, to retrieve him.
Ed and Al come face-to-face with Greed and are forced to fight him. They soon realize that Greed is also a chimera, and they are shocked to discover that he has the ability to create pockets of absolute darkness, making it impossible to see or sense anything within them. The fight is difficult and intense, and Ed and Al only succeed in defeating Greed with the help of Izumi's apprentices.
As the episode comes to a close, we see Greed return to the Homunculi's lair, where he reports his defeat to them. The Homunculi are furious that their plan has been disrupted, and they vow to continue their pursuit of the Philosopher's Stone – no matter what the cost.
Overall, "Beasts of Dublith" is an action-packed episode that introduces some important new characters and helps to flesh out the show's mythology. It also showcases the show's impressive animation and fight choreography, making it a standout episode of the season.
