Danny Tanner's family faces a conundrum in Full House season 6 episode 11, titled "Designing Mothers." With Rebecca and Becky eager to take their San Francisco-based show, The Wake Up San Francisco Show, to the next level, the Full House family decides to help them brainstorm ideas for a TV set design. Stephanie, who is missing her mom, gives her aunt a heartfelt gift, which brings up unresolved grief from when Pam passed away. Meanwhile, Michelle cons Steve and Joey into teaching her how to be a prankster. The Tanners invite Jesse's mom and Becky's mom over to help out, but they can't stop bickering long enough to be productive. With everyone in a rut, Stephanie convinces her dad to bring in a special guest to help everyone see eye to eye.
The episode opens with the family gathered in the living room watching The Wake Up San Francisco Show, where Rebecca and Becky discuss their successful show and need for an updated set. Jesse immediately gets to work drafting designs for the new set and proposes that everyone work together to build it. Stephanie has a hard time dealing with the pressure-filled project and takes a break to work on a scrapbook about her mom. Danny finds Stephanie's scrapbook and is moved to hear about how much Pam loved him, but is also forced to reckon with his ongoing grief over her passing. Meanwhile, Michelle is so taken with Steve and Joey's prank-filled lifestyle that she begs them to teach her how to be like them.
As the family begins to work on the set design, tensions are immediate. Becky's mom, who is very strict and organized, clashes with Jesse's mother, who is more laid back and artistic. The two women spend most of the day bickering, leaving the family unable to make any substantial progress on the set. Stephanie, increasingly frustrated with how the day is going, convinces her dad to bring in a special guest who could turn things around.
The surprise guest turns out to be none other than Jesse's grandma, a woman who had a pivotal role in shaping the character of Jesse when he was a young man. She teaches the family valuable lessons about perspective and how to bring out the best in one another. With grandma's guidance, the family is able to work through their tensions and finally come up with an astonishing set design for Rebecca and Becky's show.
Throughout the episode, Danny is forced to confront his unresolved grief about Pam's passing. In a poignant and heartwarming moment, Stephanie gives Danny a scrapbook she made about his relationship with Pam. As he flips through the pages, he's reminded of all the special moments he shared with her, and realizes that he hasn't been dealing with his pain in a healthy way. With Stephanie's love and support, Danny begins to embrace his emotions and make peace with his grief.
Meanwhile, Michelle's plans to wreak havoc on everyone come to a head when Steve and Joey teach her how to prank Becky. Just minutes before they are set to launch their plan, Michelle abruptly changes her mind and decides she'd rather watch Becky's show with her family. She returns home, full of newfound wisdom, and tells the family she wants to be like them instead of a prankster.
In the end, the family comes together to finish the set design, and everyone is excited to see the finished product. "Designing Mothers" is an uplifting and heartwarming episode that deals with grief, family tensions, and finding common ground. With charming performances from the cast and a touching storyline, it's a must-watch for fans of Full House.
