When Stephanie's class is chosen to participate in the "Adopt-A-Grandparent" program at a local nursing home, she is thrilled to volunteer her time. However, when her grandfather suddenly passes away, Stephanie becomes wary of getting too close to the elderly residents.
Meanwhile, Jesse is feeling overwhelmed with juggling his music career and fatherhood, so Joey suggests they hire a personal assistant to help take care of the household tasks. They interview several candidates, eventually settling on a young woman named Danielle. However, Danielle's bubbly personality and constant flirting with Jesse causes tension in the household.
As the "Adopt-A-Grandparent" program continues, Stephanie strikes up a close bond with an elderly woman named Irene who shares a love of music with her. However, when Irene's health takes a turn for the worse, Stephanie is faced with the difficult reality of losing another grandparent figure.
Back at home, Jesse grows increasingly uncomfortable with Danielle's advances and confronts her about her behavior. When she reveals that she actually has a crush on Joey, Jesse and Joey work together to gently let her down and find a new personal assistant.
Overall, "The Volunteer" tackles themes of loss, growing up, and the importance of boundaries within relationships. With heartfelt performances and relatable storylines, this episode is a standout in the iconic Full House series.
