On "Full House" season 1 episode 3, titled "The First Day of School," the Tanner girls have their first day of school. DJ starts 6th grade, Stephanie begins kindergarten, and Michelle also attends school for the first time. Danny is excited to document the first day of school with his camcorder, but his enthusiasm is not shared by all. DJ is nervous about starting middle school, while Stephanie is excited to make new friends. Meanwhile, Joey becomes obsessed with his new hobby of making impressions, much to the annoyance of everyone around him.

As the girls head off to school, Danny reminisces about his own first day of school. He tells Joey and Jesse about how he was so nervous that he threw up on his new shoes. This anecdote does not help DJ's nerves, but she manages to push through and head to school with her sisters.

Once at school, DJ and Stephanie have vastly different experiences. DJ struggles to navigate the complex middle school social scene and impress her new classmates. She worries about fitting in and making friends, especially as she sees her former elementary school friends hanging out without her. Stephanie, on the other hand, has a blast on her first day of kindergarten. She makes friends easily and loves her new teacher, Mrs. Carruthers. Michelle is also excited to start school, but her day does not go as planned when she realizes that no one will tie her shoes for her.

Back at the house, Joey drives Danny, Jesse, and Becky crazy with his constant impressions. He cannot seem to stop himself from doing voices and accents, even when it is not appropriate. Jesse tries to teach him a lesson by impersonating Joey's boss, but it backfires when Joey becomes convinced that he has been fired.

As the day wears on, DJ becomes more and more convinced that she is never going to fit in at middle school. She feels invisible and unimportant, especially when she sees the popular girls making fun of her. Stephanie tries to cheer her up by showing her all the fun things they did in kindergarten, but DJ is too focused on her own worries to appreciate it. Michelle, meanwhile, has a breakthrough moment when she finally learns to tie her own shoes.

At the end of the day, Danny is thrilled to see his girls come home happy and safe. He asks them all about their first day of school, and they eagerly tell him about their experiences. DJ admits that middle school is harder than she expected, but she is determined to keep trying. Stephanie tells Danny that she made three new friends, and Michelle proudly shows off her tied shoes. Joey, inspired by the girls' enthusiasm, decides to put his impressions on hold and focus on supporting them instead.

Overall, "The First Day of School" is a heartwarming episode of "Full House" that captures the anxieties and joys of starting a new school year. The Tanner girls each have their own unique challenges to overcome, but they manage to support each other through it all. Meanwhile, the adults in their lives learn important lessons about patience, empathy, and the importance of being present for the people they love.
