In this episode of Full Custom Garage, titled "Chopper Trike," host Ian Roussel takes on a unique project: transforming a Harley-Davidson Softail into a three-wheeled chopper trike.
The episode begins with Roussel introducing the client, Bill, who has brought in his Softail to be converted into a trike. Bill explains that he has a disability that makes riding two-wheeled motorcycles difficult, so he's excited to have Roussel work his magic and create a custom trike that will allow him to continue riding. Roussel is up for the challenge and begins brainstorming ideas for the build.
Roussel wastes no time getting to work, stripping down the Softail and modifying the frame to accommodate the new rear axle and wheels. He also adds a new front end to the bike to give it a more aggressive look and improve handling. Roussel then turns his attention to the engine, adding custom pistons and a new exhaust system to boost performance and give the bike that signature chopper sound.
As the build progresses, Roussel and his team encounter a few challenges - most notably with the brakes. The custom parts they've added don't quite fit as planned, so Roussel has to get creative and fabricate a new brake setup that will work for the trike. It's a bit of a setback, but Roussel's skill and experience allow him to come up with a solution that keeps the build on track.
Once the brakes are sorted out, Roussel moves on to the bodywork. He designs and fabricates a new fibreglass tail section for the trike, complete with a custom-shaped seat to provide a comfortable riding position for Bill. Roussel also adds a few personal touches to the trike, including an eagle head emblem on the front and a set of hand-painted flames on the tank and fenders.
As the build nears completion, Roussel and his team put the finishing touches on the trike, installing all the remaining components and making sure everything is functioning properly. In the end, they've created a truly one-of-a-kind chopper trike that is sure to turn heads wherever it goes.
At the end of the episode, Roussel presents the finished trike to Bill, who is thrilled with the result. He takes the trike out for a test ride and it performs beautifully, handling like a dream and providing a comfortable, stable ride. Roussel is happy to have been able to create a custom vehicle that not only looks great, but also serves a practical purpose for its owner.
